Description :

The Tin Can Tourists were organized in 1919 in Tampa, Florida. Like most successful groups, they experienced growing pains and schisms developed between different groups of members.. The most contentious disagreements had to do with the philosophy of the group. Eventually the white-pants Willies, who wanted to make the club more upscale (they dared to suggest that the president’s title be changed from Royal Can Opener to Royal Chief), split with the more traditional members. By the 1930s, the ATA (Automobile Tourists Association) became a rival organization. When the ATA split with the TCT, they took the TCT’s logo design, bylaws, and even their motto. Eventually both clubs’ memberships dwindled, but in 1998 Forrest and Jeri Bone resurrected the Tin Can Tourists as an organization for owners of vintage trailers and motor coaches.
